Can you use item 22040 for a sciatic nerve block in conjunction with an anaesthesia item number?

Yes. According to the ASA

"Generally, all nerve blocks performed in association with anaesthesia for the purposes of postoperative analgesia also will not attract benefits except for 3 specific blocks: spinal/epidural blocks (MBS item 22031/22036), femoral/sciatic nerve blocks (22040/22045) and brachial plexus block (22050) covered by items in Subgroup 19 of the RVG"
